Katakana writing game added
Just two weeks after the last update, I am releasing a new version of Kana DS/My Japanese Sensei, now including a katakana writing game.
Some planned additions for future releases:
- Displaying an animation of the (stroke order) correct writing of a kana when the player fails to write it properly.
- Implementing a similar functionality in the Reference screen.

I could finally learn Japanese with my NDS :)
Just a bad point in the writing practice section : this is always the same characters which appear. Goes you to change it?
Go on just like that... I wait each release with impatience.

I have a supercard slot-2 lite rumble cartridge and I need to patch the game to be able to play, but always I have a zero byte file.
I have tested to patch the latest version with the gba file, but it doesn't works because this supercard model can't load gba games.
I don't know what the problem could be. Have you had the same problem?

Ayer descubrí tu blog y dentro del tiempo que puedo tener tengo un nene de 9 meses), estoy entusiasmada de poder aprender japonés, y por lo menos mientras voy en metro a trabajar practicar un poco. Me acabo de descargar la aplicación y cuando voy a Reference, veo que abajo aparece "Draw", pero al apretar con el stick no voy a ningun sitio. Está correcto? Gracias!!
Por cierto, soy de bilbao, pero parte de mi corazón está en Alicante, donde mi madre tiene piso en La Mata (Torrevieja) desde hace más de 20 años, y adoro levante. Besos!!
Hola Eider, me alegro de que te guste la aplicación. El botón "draw" aun no funciona, pero lo hará en una versión futura.

Very useful app ! Thanx for sharing. At hiragana reference table,"ke" is shown like "ki".It would be great to see right answer when you make mistakes.

algunas observaciones:
*En reference, si seleccionas un kana, y luego elijes el mismo kana en el otro alfabeto, no se actualiza. (clickeas ち y luego チ pero sigo apareciendo ち)
*Te reconoce como correctos los kanas muy desproporcionados, he hecho un ぜ como una linea y cuatro puntos, y me lo tomo como valido.
*En contraparte, no reconoce las formas escritas de los kanas (que es la gracia, escribir en la pantalla tactil. "さ", "ち", "そ" tienen 2, 2 y 1 trazos respect. en la fuente imprenta. En la forma escrita, tienen 3,3 y 1/2 (hay dos formas de escribir そ), y los no reconoce. Pic: http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/4838/93609163ou4.jpg

Hi, the game *only runs on a Nintendo DS with a flashcart*. There are many flashcarts in the market and Kana DS works with most.
To run the game on PC/Mac/Linux, you will need to use an emulator, such as DeSmuME (linked on this post). Just download the emulator, and open the .nds file with it.
I just wanted to say that if you play the katakana practice game the heading at the Top still reads: "hirag. Practice"
I'm really excited about KanaDS! I bought a CycloDS card with a MicroSDHC to run it on my DS Lite. Unfortunately, I'm having some problems - the only practice mode that's enabled when I load it is "Free Practice". How can I enable "Daily Practice" mode?

Hi Laura, Kana DS is still work-in-progress, the practice mode does not actually work yet, sorry.

If yes then it's really sad... because this program has potential ! There's no NDS software like this for beginners !

Acabo de terminar un curso sencillito para aprender los kanas que, aunque me los sabia con antelación, no sabia "caligrafiarlos" y es lo que aprendí en el curso. Gracias a ésta aplicación me ahorro un montón de papel. Es muy bueno el programa, aunque esté en desarrollo se ve que tiene calidad y horas echadas en ello.
Estoy ansioso por ver como serán las siguientes actualizaciones pero, por curiosidad, ¿tardarán mucho en salir los de lectura, los stats y el trazado de referencia?
El de ejercicio día a día debe estar bien, pero para ello supongo que el programa tendrá que crear un archivo .sav y poder editar el calendario, supongo.
Otra duda, entiendo lo de escritura de kanji pero, ¿qué es el JLPT4? ¿es acaso un estándar como el ASCII o el Unicode?
De reporte de bugs de reference, en hiragana encuentro alternos nu y ne. Y en katakana la n aparece como en hiragana.
Una última cosa, cuando lo ejecuto en la NDS me da a elegir entre Slot 1 y Slot 2, he probado ambas sin que haya aparentemente diferencia, pero, ¿sirve realmente para algo o es algo sin importancia? Por si acaso, el motor que uso es el M3 DS Real.
Siento tantas dudas y preguntas, pero realmente espero mucho de este programa, ánimo con él ^^

JLPT es un acronimo para "Japanese Language Proficiency Test", el termino ingles para el Examen de Aptitud del Idioma Japones (nihongo nōryoku shiken). El JLPT4 es el 4o nivel del examen (hay niveles de 1 a 5). I only have the "free practice" unlocked and there I can only use the katakana and hiragana writing practice and the kanji number practice.
¿Is this normal? ¿Where can I find a full version?
